Call MVS for foreign body retrieval.
Sometimes, a pet's sense of mischief or appetite can get them into trouble. Dogs are notorious for ingesting toys, bones, balls, and other foreign objects which can become lodged in the esophagus or stomach. Cats frequently ingest string, yarn, or thread – sometimes with a needle still attached! Foreign material in the esophagus can cause severe esophageal trauma and even stricture (narrowing of the esophagus to the point that food and water cannot pass through). Foreign material in the stomach frequently causes vomiting, and if foreign material passes through the stomach and into the small intestine, it can cause a life-threatening obstruction or GI perforation. MVS uses specialized endoscopic equipment to remove foreign material from the esophagus and stomach in a minimally invasive manner. In many cases, this can eliminate the need for surgery.
