What is CSF analysis?
This diagnostic test, also called a "spinal tap," involves the sampling of the cerebrospinal spinal fluid via needle aspiration while the patient is under general anesthesia. This test is frequently performed in canine and feline patients that present for a number of neurological problems, such as seizures, ataxia and paresis/paralysis. Diseases that are frequently diagnosed with this diagnostic tool are listed here:
  • Infectious meningitis of dogs and cats (of protozoal, fungal, bacterial or viral origin)
  • Non-infectious, inflammatory meningitis of dogs (such as granulomatous meningoencephalitis/GME, necrotizing encephalitis of Pug dogs, etc.)
