What is bronchoscopy?
This test is performed by navigating through the trachea (breathing tube) and airways of the lungs with a long, but very small and flexible camera. With this camera, we can visualize the inside of the lungs and obtain samples for culture and microscopic analysis. We can look for foreign material which may have been inhaled. Bronchoscopy is often recommended for patients who are coughing or experiencing labored breathing or respiratory distress. It is used in the diagnosis of many lung diseases, including:
  • Chronic bronchitis
  • Pneumonia
  • Feline asthma
  • Tracheal stricture or foreign body
  • Unusual/atypical infections of the lungs
